Struck by cupid's arrow

Friday, February 14 is the day that we celebrated love across the world. Exchanging gifts, such as candies, stuffed animals, flowers, and the like is an expression of adoration that many soak in.

What did we ask you to do?

In celebration of Valentine's Day, we asked you to write a story or a poem to express how you feel about love. Are you in love? celebrating an anniversary, remembering a breakup, fantasizing over a crush, or crying your heart out?

The Victor of the Challenge is:

Our judges had a very hard time deciding which lovely work of literature was going to win, but the agreement was unanimous.

Romance and ExperienceA young serpent drifted beneath the waves. A silly thing; he dreamed and woke and couldn’t tell one from the other, but it mattered little to him. He roamed the sea at whim, stopping only occasionally to watch the world around him before flicking his tail to resume his course.
One warm spring day, he chanced upon a marsh crowded by water plants and seabirds, who danced in spirals and streaks, stirring the air as they glided noisily from one end to another. Intrigued, the serpent slid his head a little higher above the water and slithered through the algae.
He recognized this frenzied activity—courting, they called it. He’d never paid it much thought, thinking it wearisome and undignified, but that day it seemed as if his vision had been tinged in rose. Under a spell of pure insanity, he suddenly imagined himself in love, and being loved, no longer wandering the empty seas alone.
Love, he decided must be the goal in life. And he fell in love with the notion.
For days h

with his work of prose, "Romance and Experience."

"This is a sort of allegory. Serpent is the naive, romantic side of the person's mind, and Crane is the experienced side. Basically crane doesn't want serpent to actually experience love because then he'd lose the beauty of it, and then he'd stop dreaming, which would mean a very dreary, jaded life. But the serpent knows he'd fade away eventually, so he wants to do something about it." -- graphite-master

The Reality of a DreamMy life has been a dream
Nothing to me seems real
As if I could wake up,
And be in another life,
Another body,
Another person
But then I met him,
And my eyes have been opened
His smile brings me closer
To the reality of the dream I live in
I don’t know what he feels,
If that this is just a crush,
And that one day I’ll wake up
And not feel anything for him anymore
But something inside me tells me
That there is more to this story
Love Is A Rational Thing"What is love, darling?", you asked me out of the blue one night as we were lying side by side, looking at each other.
"Well, I think the exact definition may vary, depending on whom you ask. For me, love is a rational thing." You looked at me in disbelief with those big brown eyes of yours. "How so?", you asked. "Isn't love the most emotional and least rational thing in the world?"
And I had to admit, you got a point there. Most people would certainly agree with you. Most people, but not me.
"You're probably confusing love with the feeling of attraction. Or falling in love. Those things are indeed highly irrational. Mostly based on brain chemistry, anyway."
You raised your eyebrows even higher when you heard this, and then turned them to a frown. "So what's the point?"
"My point is that loving someone, with everything attached to its meaning, is a conscious decision. See, why do I love you?"
"I'm not even sure any more that you do", you said with a mischievous smile on your lips.
"Ver
:thumb432314834: synthetic sunsetswhen I first met you
I fell in love with your façade of sugary beauty
the way your laugh sways and bends
I dreamt of calico nights beneath satin skies
and waking up
underneath a shimmering sun
I wasn’t sure what to think
when all i found was silence tucked into your pockets
and zippers etched into the curve of your lips
that had long been drawn shut
I realized the sunsets I had so long dreamt of
were not as genuine as I hoped
but rather, just as synthetic
as you.
MagnetismThe heart has a magnetic field 5000 times stronger than that generated by the brain.
Perhaps this is why certain people find they're drawn to each other - because, quite literally, they are.
A biological imperative.
But, when the other pole of your magnetic heart, located in someone else, begins to pull away
Does it have to hurt quite so much?
Remember that your heart also beats
Each beat a fist rhythmically crashing into your chest, cracking your ribs and crushing your lungs.
A biological imperative.
But, when half your heart walks away from you, pulling the remnant down into your stomach to be dissolved by acid
Does it have to hurt quite so much?
VermillionI licked possession into your skin and called it love,
Sweet nothings that said everything
If only you’d listen,
Something dark and enveloping.
(Oh, baby, you loved every moment.)
Even with a vein full of fire and numbness, you stayed,
As I whispered that love conquers all,
And don’t you want to be made new, my dear?
Don’t you want Aphrodite touches that save the soul?
(Did you forget the fates of the Lemnos, of Hippolytus who forgot to worship?)
You revered the Romantics for their emotions, their passion,
But why then, when sweet red turned raging mercury vermillion did you forget
That passion is a synonym for temper?
That almost all of your trashy romance novels are insidious?
(Oh, I see, you wanted a domesticated pet, not a wild and free animal.)
You once asked me if I ever loved you,
And I replied ‘yes.’
But, darling, you forget that even shadows can feel,
And I fell in love with the way you sang pretty bird songs when I touched yo
Stuff for Valentine's Day
Everyone likes getting stuff for Valentine's Day - cards, flowers, giant teddy bears, boxes of chocolate; I could go on and on. And let's not forget those little candy hearts with the cheesy yet adorable phrases; the possibilities are endless. Married almost fifteen years and I never stopped being surprised by the thought my husband put into February the 14th. When I think back to all the times I'd come home to find the bed covered in rose petals, a huge stuffed animal right in the center surrounded by flowers and candies, it always puts a smile on my face.
Sometimes I think he took the holiday more seriously than I did. Before I met him, my Valentine's Day usually consisted of dinner at a nice restaurant followed by forty-five minutes to an hour of some other activity. It's rather ironic that after I married, my Valentine's Day shifted from what a typical adult might do, to some kind of preteen fairytale; but I loved it and I loved him for putting forth the effort.
I imagine we would
This DaySo I had high hopes,
And you dashed them.
So what?
So I got all dolled up,
And you said nothing.
So what?
So I spent hours on my hair,
And you said hers was pretty.
So what?
So I was all prepared today,
I was going to tell you.
So what?
So you gave her a gift,
And forgot about me.
So what?
I don't care anymore,
But I really do hate this day.
Valentines Day.

Love is supportive, seductive, sensational, secretive and sweet
Love is a shout to the world
Love is a cry in the dark
Love is a new discovery
Love is complete insanity
Love is an open heart
Love is too many things to name
Love is a not so typical game
Love has every possible everything
Love is family and friends
Love is love, is love, is love, is love
True love is an entirely different matter
Two souls meld into one single being through a passionate fire,
Its flames taking them beyond themselves, reaching higher and higher
As the reach and as they climb
They become two hearts and one mind
They live in each other and thrive together
Their working only making them better and better
a touch of lovehis fingers explore
heart beating in a rush rush
nerve endings gone wild
every time he touches me
With Every Beat of Your HeartYou tore out my heart and ripped it into a million pieces. Once torn, you did not stop there; you proceeded to blow the pieces into my face. You were taunting me, and I was still as a statue, not yet understanding the situation. You had once gained pleasure form my love but it is now my pain that you desire. Those pieces of my heart, my love, fluttered into the wind like confetti.
You tore out my heart, but I am not yet dead, I continue to live. Because although the love from my heart is gone, there's still so many other ways to love you. And I will continue to love you this way because my life now depends on my love for you. My blood will continue to course through my veins as long as I love you. With every beat of your heart I will continue to love you. I will continue to live. I will not stop loving you until you die. My love will stay strong until you weaken.
You tore out my heart. I saw it blow in the wind, but I know it will come back. Not to me, but to you. My heart, my love, my
StardustMy love-sick heart cannot stay away,
Although I know we cannot be
The cracks in my soul scream "run,"
But my ears disregard their brutal screeches
For one day, my bones believe,
You and I can be happy
Together or a part, however,
I cannot say
For in the end we're just stardust.
.I tattooed your name
across my heart but
I told the artist
don't go too deep,
these things don't
last forever, you know.
20 Poems for my love(7. If)If you could only see how I feel about you.
If you could only see what you really mean to me.
If you could only understand my feelings for you.
If I could only read your mind.
If I could see how you feel about me.
If I could see what I mean to you.
If I could be able to understand all those feelings, even if they're not the same as mine.
